The plain language standard developed through the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is based on an internationally agreed-upon definition of plain language. The standard was created using a well-regarded consensus model. This means that plain language practitioners around the world support this standard.
The standard is not just for English, nor is it just for ISO’s other two official languages, French and Russian. In fact, the standard is language neutral. So it works in most languages and across all sectors.
Not only, but especially in the field of OSH education, this new standard could act as a game changer to get OSH literacy taught in schools. OSH literacy can be described as: The degree to which individuals have the functional capacity to access, process and utilize the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) information and services needed to eliminate or reduce risk.
