Conference Zagreb

In her analysis, Ulrike Bollmann took a comprehensive six-step approach, covering the following factors: the workload of teachers, the autonomy of teachers, their professional development, the challenge of ethical issues, the new regulatory framework at EU level and the question of costs.
In considering strategies and measures to secure the digitalisation process for teachers and students, she concluded that a proactive school strategy on digitalisation is needed, providing teachers with the necessary resources and an AI policy at the administrative and classroom level. Furthermore, the societal impact of introducing AI in schools should be constantly monitored, with the option of backing out if unintended consequences arise. With regard to occupational safety and health, the concept of AI literacy must also include the safety, health and well-being of teachers and learners. Furthermore, more research is needed overall on the resilience and development of functional coping strategies of teachers, learners and schools in emergency situations.

Background information:
The International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS) records the digital skills (computer and information literacy (CIL) and, more recently, computational thinking (CT)) of eighth-grade students and, most recently, teachers in the countries participating in the study, in order to obtain the necessary background data on digitisation in schools. The ICILS study has been conducted by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) since 2010. The last and third cycle of the study, ICILS 2023, was launched in 2018. The results of ICILS 2023 will be published on 12 November 2024.
