Prevention of skin diseases means that the awareness of the risks and the knowledge about effective ways of protection is of very high importance. At work, as well as during education in pre-schools and schools, vocational schools and universities, awareness and knowledge of skin diseases can and should be included into everyday life, into lessons, lectures, education and training.

The OHTA training materials are available at four levels: Awareness, Foundation, Intermediate and Specialist. More information about the training scheme and qualifications framework can be found on the website.

Each apprentice goes through different departments during their practical period in the supermarket. During on-site instruction, apprentices are made aware of the respective risks. Detailed information is provided in the state vocational schools in their own Spar academy classes, whose curriculum is tailored to work at Spar.

Formaldehyde is used in medical fields such as pathology, human and veterinary anatomy for the fixation, preservation and storage of human or animal tissue. In November 2014, the Committee on Hazardous Substances adopted a workplace limit value (AGW) for formaldehyde, which also applies to workplaces in anatomical institutes at German universities, but is not always complied with.

Education materials for vocational training

"An apprenticeship that fits" for four professional groups The BGW offers you materials that support you in your lessons. Topics include first aid, skin protection, hand hygiene and needlestick injuries. The BGW has put together brochures for the following apprenticeships: medical assistants, veterinary assistants, dental assistants and hairdressers.

As images are more powerful and easier to understand and to remember than words, the sector decided to visualise the abstract term 'ergonomics' in a playful and clear manner, this by developing a ‘3D floorplanner’.

Practical tools with regard to ergonomics and skin prevention were developed for hairdressers, such as a desk research with good practices from 17 countries, an instruction video, 2 manuals with background information for teachers (ergonomics and preventing skin complaints), visually supporting material, namelijk ‘take care of yourself’ sheets with some main concerns.

A new interactive online program on WSPS' website allows workplaces to customize and download up to seven different posters on occupational skin disease, including dermatitis. Each poster combines a photo of a recognizable workplace situation with action-oriented prevention practices written in simple language.

This Napo movie deals with dangers for your skin at work, with skin diseases and skin problems caused by workplace situations. „Which are the most important 2 square meters of you life?“ Napo, the 3d computer animated character gives the answer to this question: „Your skin!“.
