The health and safety guide for multicultural workforces is an initiative of the Centre for Occupational Safety, United Kingdom. This project is aiming to creating a positive health and safety culture, especially in the food industry, where a high percentage of employees has a multicultural background. This means, the management has to understand and manage cultural differences, e.g. different languages, religious beliefs, status, food and fasting, dress and attitudes to authority. Translations or language-independent signs are important to transport information relevant for safe and healthy behaviour. The project wants to improve this to promote health and safety in the food industry. The document, Working Safely in a Multicultural Food Industry, sets out guidelines to food and drink companies on delivering health and safety information, instruction, training and supervision to diverse cultural and language groups food and drink companies.
