htl donaustadt is a secondary technical and vocational school in Vienna. Students prepare for a-grades for the entrance to engineering studies or for working in technical and engineering professions. Besides everyday's lessons and vocational training, htl donaustadt puts much effort into additional qualifications of the students such as safety, health and environmental awareness. The idea is that the students will later proceed into management positions where they will be multipliers for safety and sustainability. In lessons integrated into the educational schedules, students can gain additional qualifications as environmental representative, waste commissioner and in lessons about environment and economics (Umweltökonomie). Lessons on product safety, safety at work and health management have also become very popular which can give them an additional qualification safety representative (Sicherheitsvertrauensperson). But safety and sustainability are not only part of theoretical education: students do also participate in management processes: In 2001, the school implemented an environmental management system in accordance to ISO 14001 and has been already awarded as Ökoprofit business. In 2005 the school officials also started to implement the SGM safety and health management system of AUVA.
