The core of the project was the development of institutional measures to reduce stressful acoustic situations in educational institutions. For this purpose, a team from environmental education, health science, social science and acoustics with 16 educational institutions in Carinthia, Upper Austria, Styria, Tyrol and Vienna developed an approach that combined the following five areas:
- with the sensitization and awareness-raising for noise as a stressful health factor & with biological and physical aspects of hearing
- with social processes such as communication and conflict situations
- with organizational processes such as the use of space for group work
- with room and building acoustics turn pupils into active designers of these measures with inquiry-based learning.
As part of this research, the students developed and implemented tailor-made measures to reduce noise pollution in their own school together with teachers and the school management and supported by the project team.
