Today we know a lot about the connections between health, education and learning. In the same way, we now know a lot about the characteristics of schools in which health-promoting - and therefore learning-conducive - conditions prevail. The healthy school complements its educational and upbringing mission with health promotion content , usually through the following topics: Nutrition, Movement, Relaxation and Teacher health.
But a good, healthy school goes far beyond imparting knowledge on these topics. It may come as a surprise, but good healthy schools are not primarily characterized by a medical team, an exceptional range of sports or nutritionally certified food, nor by seals of approval and awards. Their characteristics are more likely to be found in their “culture”.
