On the one hand, it is about the realities of life depending on social background, educational success and labor market opportunities, and on the other hand, it is about the future planned or promised, hoped for or feared by young Viennese. Over time, it should be made clear which options exist for the rest of life from the outset, which events give rise to new options, but also how opportunities close again. This provides new insights into how the life chances of young generations are shaped by school, family, institutional and labor market conditions and what strategies young people pursue during the crucial transitions in this phase of life.
With the institute project “Paths into the Future”, the Institute of Sociology aims to bundle the knowledge, experiences and methodological approaches from its various research areas.
