VISIONARY is a European collaborative project on school bullying and violence (SBV), addressing teachers, parents, professionals, pupils and others interested in the topic. The web portal aims to help all who search for background information on SBV, project descriptions, good practice, materials and other resources on SBV in the Internet. It also wants to support all who are interested in exchanging ideas and experiences with others on an International level. The main sections of the website are available in English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Romanian, Danish and Finnish.
Cyber- Harassment Of Teachers (Belgium)

ETUCE (The European Trade Union Committee for Education) started a second project on violence at school: "Teachers concerned about violence at school - cyber harassment".
Cyber harassment has more and more developed into a highly discussed topic at schools because it affects teachers at their workplace and their working conditions in a most dangerous way.

This project is targeted at schools – pupils, parents, teachers, and institutions connected with education. The campaign is being conducted in two stages. First stage – information campaign which will make people conscious of the problem of violence in school, its causes, and prevention. A programme board works out and publishes a code “School without Violence” including standards, which school should fulfill in order to limit violence.
Second stage – schools which are willing to take part in the campaign will have to accept and fulfill requirements included in the code. They will receive the title of school participating in the campaign.

PAC (Praevention als Chance) Prevention as a chance (Germany)

This project by The Municipal Accident Insurance Association, Communal Accident Kitty Lower Saxony, in association with State Office of Criminal Investigation Lower Saxony is a program for violence prevention for children day-care centres and schools. With the program PaC (Praevention als Chance) – Prevention as a Chance, the program developers of the Criminal Investigation Lower Saxony, the Municipal Accident Insurance Association and the school authority have, fort he first time, created a comprehensive approach in school oriented violence prevention for entire town councils.
"MindMatters" - promotion of mental health in and with schools (Germany)

Originally from Australia, MindMatters is a school based programme for the promotion of mental health in secondary schools (Grade 5 – 10). The German language adaptation was developed and pilot tested within a research project under the lead of Prof. Dr. Peter Paulus at the Leuphana University Lueneburg from 2002 to 2006. MindMatters is a setting approach and aims at all persons involved in school such as pupils, school heads and non-teaching staff as well as at affiliated outside the school.

„Achtung Grenze (Mind the boundaries!) is a project by the German Child Protection Agency Nuremberg for pupils from the 1st to the 9th grade. Project classes get lessons for about 17 hours. The lessons are supposed to strengthen self esteem and social competencies, show boundaries and prevent violence.
Källby Gård – Safe school (Denmark)

Källby Gård is a comprehensive school with children from 1 to 12 years old. The school was the first in the world to be awarded the title of safe and secure school, according to the criteria set up by the WHO, on the 24th November 2003. The school has been a model for work with accident prevention. In order to create secure and safe environments, the school has developed a plan of action to promote the children’s security and safety in both the physical and psychosocial environment.

In this project, younger pupils get a „buddy“ (an older pupil), who accompanies them through their school time and helps them in several ways. Aims of this project are: strengthen social competencies and means of conflict resolution, enhance communication and cooperation of teachers, pupils and parents.
The program is supported by the Federal Government, more than 800 schools from several Bundesländer in Germany and several Austrian schools have participated by now.

“Eigenständig werden” is a school-based programme for the development of life-skills, health promotion, prevention of substance abuse and aggression. Many studies have shown that the prevention of e.g. substance abuse should start as early as possible and should include children under the age of 10. Prevention programmes should be run continuously over a longer period of time to achieve a sustained support of the children. These issues were taken into account in the development of “Eigenständig warden”. The program is made for grade 1-4.

In Finland, health education has been a mandatory subject in basic, general upper secondary and vocational education and training since 2000 (government proposal 142/2000). One requirement arising from this was that in-service training was to be provided for teachers for a 5-year transition period following the reform's entry into force.
Candidates have been asked to recognize cases of bullying, to identify health risks in the work of a rock musician, to present and review indoor air problems, to argue for the positive health effects of banning smoking in bars and restaurants, and discuss the consequences of this.
Brummi, the prevention bear of the Berlin police (Germany)

This prevention program of the Berlin police carries out anti-violence performances at primary schools in Berlin. The hand-puppet „Brummi the bear“ provides tipps and tricks for strong and self-confident children.
The performaces cover different topics, that are worked on together with the children: saying „no!“, self-esteem and body language, good and bad secrets (confide in someone and looking for help), „when strangers accost me“, taking things away, getting help.
International Safe Schools (Sweden)

International Safe Schools is part of a larger movement, the World Health Organization Safe Community movement. Formally started in 1989 and located at the WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion in Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm Sweden. Most of their programs took place in the United States- however, many European countries are also involved in this campaign.

„Be cool – keep cool“ is a violence prevention project initiated by the Kinderbuero Frankfurt am Main. It aims on keeping up decision-making and responsibility in violence situations. The pupils are trained to be able to be aware of these kinds of situations and to avoid them. The project is made for pupils of class 5 to 10, as well as for training of teachers, pedagogues and police officers.

The coolness-training is aimed at violence prevention as well as handling violence. Children and young people are trained to look closely at violent situations. Irenic intervention and dispute-settling ate trained as well. The main ambition of the training is to form a community that is chracterised by peacefulness and acceptance.

The Cronus camp is a violence prevention camp organized by experienced experts for the Kanton Zug. On the basis of respect for each others, the children get to know several martial arts techniques. Playing, sports and fun are the motor of a holistically designed training, which is supposed to help the children to deal with conflict situations.

“Echt stark” (Really strong) – Violence prevention (Germany)

The violence prevention program „Echt stark“ was developed by Daniela Kreh and Jens Richter in 2002 and has been enhanced since the. Originally, it was a program for children and young people who are left alone with violence and boundlessness. In the beginning, this program for violence prevention was implemented successfully in schools and youth institutions. Later it has been enhanced to be useful for parents and other persons working with children and young people. Since 2007, „Echt stark“ is offering social competence training for young people on the cusp of the professional life as well.

„Fairplayer e.V.“ und „Fairplayer.manual“ (established 2003) are long term programmes aiming at developing pro-social behaviour, respect for each other, moral courage and social competence in order to raise awareness and to prevent bullying and violence among pupils and young people. Fairplayer.manual was developed by the Freie Universität Berlin.

The main target of the violence prevetion is being covered specifically in different focal points. At first, the children get to know each other and learn to trust. Based on that, different problems can be faced inside the group, especially in team work. The group talks about emotions and secrets, how to say „no“ and how to set and to accept boundaries. Self esteem and physical self confidence are strengthened, and, in addition, „getting help“ is a special topic.
Respekt – initiative for violence- free schools (Germany)

„Respekt“ is an initiative originally located in Ludwigsburg. It aims at violence prevention at school. A resource- and solution- oriented prevention concept suitable for all forms of violence (beating, threatening, bullying, vandalism, racism, extortion) is offered. The aim of the project is to create an open platform for educational schoolwork and existing prevention work inside the school and outside.
The initiative offers a variety of material for prevention work: calendars, CD- ROM, brochures and a media package.
People’s Theater (Germany)

This program wants to enhance ethical thinking and acting by using theater work. Leading idea is „peer education“. An „action team“ consisting of eight young people of different nationalities performs little theater- scenes directly in class rooms. The young people perform and write every day scenes together with the pupils. A kind of interactive playing allows the audience to particiupate or to make suggestions on how the scene can go on. For each conflict situation i a scene, a „perfect solution“ is found by trying and discussing, at the end of the lesson, the scene is played again, showing this solution.

Bunte Kuh - hands-on design of spaces – building with clay for all, big and small (Germany)

With its "hands-on design of spaces" scheme, Bunte Kuh e.V. regularly conducts architectural projects using clay, water and fire in problem districts and in education facilities. Under a marquee open on all sides, freely modelled urban landscapes with accessible cavities and sculptures up to four metres in height take shape under the hands of architects of all sizes according to designs of their own. Children and young people work hand-in-hand with parents and neighbours, locals and strangers, the mentally and physically handicapped, artists, educationalists and construction experts.

This program wants to enhance ethical thinking and acting by using theater work. Leading idea is „peer education“. An „action team“ consisting of eight young people of different nationalities performs little theater- scenes directly in class rooms. The young people perform and write every day scenes together with the pupils. A kind of interactive playing allows the audience to particiupate or to make suggestions on how the scene can go on. For each conflict situation i a scene, a „perfect solution“ is found by trying and discussing, at the end of the lesson, the scene is played again, showing this solution.

This program for pupils aged 10 – 13 years is designed as a de-escalation training and aims at dec reasing „everyday violence“. This and „small“ beastlinesses can sometimes cause bigger violence.
The program offers projects for pupils, as well as for parents and teachers. It uses Theater and role-play, excercise-oriented training, group- and small group work, in teractive scene collage about violence, further training of parents and pedagogical staff, consultation and support on development of violence- preventing concepts.
Bunte Kuh - hands-on design of spaces – building with clay for all, big and small (Germany)

With its "hands-on design of spaces" scheme, Bunte Kuh e.V. regularly conducts architectural projects using clay, water and fire in problem districts and in education facilities. Under a marquee open on all sides, freely modelled urban landscapes with accessible cavities and sculptures up to four metres in height take shape under the hands of architects of all sizes according to designs of their own. Children and young people work hand-in-hand with parents and neighbours, locals and strangers, the mentally and physically handicapped, artists, educationalists and construction experts.
